‘My Electronic Soul’ is probably one of Franco Cangelli’s most personal tracks. Slow and almost sensual 909 drums create a sonic canvas on which soulful pads and elegant melodies create a timeless electronic ballad reminiscent of early Chicago deep house combined with the melancholy of Detroit. As the title suggests, This track pretty much exposes Franco’s true roots and is an ode to those long lost and almost forgotten days. “House for Brunch” is another deep house offering with more Detroit melodics. Slightly more uptempo, the melody has an almost boogie jazzy feel plenty of playfulness. On remix duty we find Basic Soul Unit and James Kumo, a perfect match for ‘My Electronic Soul’. Toronto’s Basic Soul Unit, who released on Mule Electroniq, Philpot and Crème, gave it a bit more muscle with slightly distorted beats and deep basses. Keeping the soulfulness of the original, he applied his typical sound signature turning My Electronic Soul in a more dubbed out and sexy, almost blues-like deep techno gem! James Kumo takes on a more hypnotic approach, using deep sub basses layered with the main repetitive riff slightly fluctuating throughout the track, creating a unique presence. The melancholic pad gives the whole an emotional almost soul-searching feel. The entire ep is all in all a special soulful treat!
